“The Non-Conference Conference”

I am a thief.  I am admitting it.

I literally just cut and paste my post title today from this blog by Crosspoint Church Senior Pastor Pete Wilson.   Sorry Pete, but it was just too perfect a description for you alone to use it.  So, I took it right in front of God and everybody. Here’s why …

My pastor hubby is heading off to Catalyst Conference 08 with the Crosspoint team.  He is just beyond pumped and I’m happy for him.  Okay, I’m a bit jealous, too.

Why?  Not only is Joe and the fab team from Crosspoint going, but so is a large entourage from my office.   We have a big ‘ol 30-foot display there, along with separate booth areas with even more strategic focus.   But this conference is about WAY more than being seen or heard there as a presenter or exhibitor.

It is a great opporunity for today’s church leaders to connect with other church leaders – to learn and network.   And it truly is a great leadership training experience for those who attend.

As conferences go, they really know how to do it right – and especially keep the focus on reaching people for Christ.  The presentation there is as high tech and passionate as the participants who attend.  All of them with the same goal, to be trained up to lead better and reach their respective communities in innovative ways – ways that may have never been tried before in the past!

So, do I have you intrigued?   Here’s a way to keep up with it … go to Catalyst Backstage often and follow the reports.  I know that is what I will be doing during the week.  And of course, I’ll get a live and in-person followup when Joe gets back in town.  If you go there now, you’ll see the cutest video from Crosspoint’s Anne Jackson, who will be hosting the backstage blog of the event.  She’s about to hit the road.  I’ll let you go there and check out a little more about her trip to the “A-T-L”.  And pray for her, she’s got a little allergy thang goin’.

Why do I really care about this … so much that I’ve already written more than once about it?

It serves as a reminder of the commitment by not only church leaders from the area we serve, but by thousands across this land … a commitment that reaching others for Christ is still a priority.  It also shows me that there is always a new way to reach someone for Christ.  Let’s not keep God in a box!

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes traditional methods work best.  Then again, in today’s culture, it may take some innovation to intrigue others to come and check out what God may have for you in that “new church down the street”.  Oh, how I look forward to what God does during these three days in Atlanta.   Travel safe, ya’ll!
