My nephew and the Navy

Posted: July 28, 2007 in Uncategorized

Coming up is an emotional week for our family.   My nephew has joined the Navy and he will be heading out for about five months this coming Thursday …

In the midst of wedding excitement around OUR house, there is another kind of transition taking place on the other side of town.

My nephew, Keith, is headed to Chicago for Basic Training.  He is my sister’s only child and she is extremely sad – but understands his calling to this place called military service.

Keith actually joined last fall.  By doing that, his senior year in high school actually “counted” toward his service time.  During the last year, he had regular communications with his navel officer, as well as some special training with other new navy recruits.

Now, it’s off to basic training – we are not even sure we’ll see him before February.  It is so very hard to imagine.  He’s just one year older than our own Chelsea.  And especially with our country at war, we don’t know where all of this will take him – but most likely to way more dangerous places than I will ever see.

This is the first person in our family in recent years to go into the service. So, needless to say, our family will have a special place in our heart for the Navy branch of the armed services.

Keep Keith in your prayers – and lift up our family – as we proudly release him to the arms of the US military.  I am extremely thankful for this young man who has chosen to serve our country so that we may continue to enjoy freedom in these United States.   Thanks Keith – we love you!

    Dear pam,

I am a little late on reading your blogs with work and all. I just wanted to let you know that my heart and prayers go out to you and your family.
