Memorial Day wrap up

Posted: May 26, 2008 in Uncategorized

I have just eased through this day.   I’ve reflected on why we celebrate Memorial Day…

My nephew serving now in the US Navy keeps this top of mind for us 24/7, 365 days a year.   He is stationed in Jacksonville, aboard the USS Vicksburg.   How fitting that he is here at home this week on leave, just in time to also celebrate my sister’s birthday on Friday.  How cool is that?

As for our family time today, we’ve simply “caught up”.  We’ve caught up on sleep.  We’ve caught up on chores.   We’ve caught up on work missed.  We’ve caught up on simply watching some mindless television.

I can almost feel myself relaxing.

I’ve just glanced outside again, watching a passing storm.  It has given our flowers a good drenching, so I’m not complaining.   We plan to grill out in a little while and it looks like the timing will be perfect.

Now, what do I have to look forward to the rest of this week?

Well, it will be busy, but NOTHING compared to the last seven days.  I’ve got to pull some wardrobe together for a video shoot scheduled for tomorrow at a local studio.   I’ve got a “girls night out” planned for tomorrow evening.   Two days later in the week will be spent working off-site in a retreat setting where I know some great fellowship and brainstorming will take place.  Our weekend is starting to fill up, but that’s okay.  “Busy” is what we do best.

So, enjoy what’s left of today.  Reflect on the reason for why we pause on this day.  Give thanks for those who have died on our behalf to protect us and keep us living free.  Pray for those who continue to serve today to do the same, risking it all to give us freedom.

May you wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to take on what comes your way.  We are blessed.

Thanks for stopping by.
